Not So Solid Bethel Pastor Todd White Needs a New Mentor

maxresdefaultby Rob Lundberg

I am not sure how many of you have seen the video on social media with Todd White from Bethel Church with Word Faith teacher Kenneth Copeland. In the video, a whole 2 minutes long, there is enough to show how Christians need to steer clear of the teachings of Pastor Todd White of Bethel Church and far away from the heretical teachings of Kenneth Copeland.

Here is the video, and then once the video is over, allow me to share some things that are heretical with Copeland’s teachings. I think once we are done, we may agree that Todd White needs to find another mentor that will lead him and his church in the right direction biblically speaking.

What is wrong with Todd White’s mentor’s teachings?  Let’s examine them as Kenneth rattles them off “bubble by bubble.”

Money Cometh to Me!  Is that what the ministry is all about?  What did Jesus have to say?  “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19). “Raising the income” through the taking of a church offering?  Really? It sounds more like the offering was being taken to fund his fleet of aircraft.  I have no problem with God blessing Christians with wealth, but this is not the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the crux of the “prosperity gospel,”  More on that later.

“You don’t have a God in you. You are one.” This is the first of many declarations in this short video. This claim came right out the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3. Isaiah prophesied to the nations and to Israel that there was only one God (Isaiah 43:10; 44:6; 45:22).  We are not God because God tells us that He is the only one.

“God’s reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself.” If one’s view of God is faulty, everything else theologically tumbles like a Jenga tower. God’s desire for man was to know Him and make Him known among the nations. We are first told that God made man and woman in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26, 27). But the fly in the ointment is God told Adam to be fruitful and multiply.” (Genesis 1:28) Why?
It was for the population of the earth and to rule it and have dominion over the created animals, fowl, and fish.  It was not to be a little god. There is a big difference between having God-given dominion over the creation from being a “god.”

“And Adam was much like God as you can get. . .He was not a little like God. . .He was not almost like God. . .He was not subordinate to God even.”  These claims address Adam’s position in the order of creation. They are just flat out wrong.

This is what has the neo-atheists “going monkeys” when it comes to hearing this “bad joo joo” coming from Kenneth Copeland. Here’s the rationale:  If God created everything and Adam is much like God as one can get, was Adam also involved in creating everything?  I thought he was a created being and that would make him subordinate to the One who created him.

Here is another problem. If Adam was as much like God, and God is perfect and cannot sin, then why did Adam who was very much like God sin?  There are a plethora of other questions that could come up as a result of this. The problem is that Kenneth Copeland does not know who God is, plain and simple.  But it gets worse.

Adam in the Garden of Eden was God manifested in the flesh.”  This is a metaphysical error of highest rate. The only One who IS God manifested in the flesh is Jesus Christ.  In order to be a God, you have to be an infinite being.  Adam was created (Genesis 1:26-28). Jesus is uncreated (John 1:1, 14; 8:58). To say that Adam is the same as  the very God who is infinite, unchanging, personal, invisible, transcendent, loving, all powerful et al is heresy.  To put a created being on par with the Uncaused God is false teaching and heresy.

Todd White would do well to take a course in theology or find another line of work. If he is in ministry to live a life of luxury and be like his mentor Kenneth Copeland, he needs get out of the ministry. The gospel is plain and simple,

“Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. . .” (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

Anything incongruent with this is another gospel. Kenneth Copeland, Todd White and those of their same line of theology all fall under the declarations by Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:3,4 and Galatians 1:7-9.  If you are a member of Bethel Church, you need to become a Berean and hold your pastor in check. If he does not repent, you need to find another fellowship that teaches the Word of God.
