Cell Network Down!

This past week AT&T’s network went down and had a lot of people scrambling. At the last I knew I believe that the network is back up. But what if a cell network goes down for a number of days or even weeks, or even months. Are you and I prepared to respond on a SIT like that?

Here are four things to think upon:

1. Think about investing in alternative communication methods, like radios, satellite phones, or ham radios. Ensure that you and your contacts know how to use these commo tools.

2. Establish an emergency communication plan with family, colleagues. Designate a rally or meeting point and alternative communication methods in case cell phones become unavailable.

3. Ham Radios can be used for short range or long range communications without relying upon cellular networks .

4. Satellite phones are phones that communicate directly with satellites instead of terrestrial cell towers, making them resilient to local network disruptions.

Nota bene:  Remember that you need to assess your situation and choose the most suitable communication method based upon factors like range, availability of resources, and the nature of the disruption.

Being prepared mentally is important, knowing that long term disruptions to cell networks can have a broader impact and implications for national security, public safety and economic stability. Being prepared helps mitigate the impact of such disruptions and contributes to overall national reliance.

In the face of potential cyber attacks or other security threats targeting cell networks, being prettied with alternative communication methods  increases resilience and reduces dependence on a single point of failure. This resilience is crucial for ensuring continuity of communication during disruptions.
