Get Real Life!

What happens when we die?

Is eternal life REAL or Ridiculous?

If there is a Heaven, what does it take for a person to get there when this life is over?
What happens to us when this life ends?

Some people (skeptics) say nothing, we just become worm compost or just cease to exist. Some people say reincarnation, believing that they come back to balance off the bad things they did in the previous life, by coming back to do better or good.  Some people say nirvana by either exploding into the impersonal “god” (Buddhism) or uniting with an impersonal Brahman (Hinduism)   Some people say heaven, by being a “good person.”

With all of those options, can you and I really know?  Can anyone know for certain?

What IF I told you, that when we die, we really don’t die.  What?  No. We just “change addresses” from one reality (the natural) to another reality (the supernatural). Our soul, given to us by God (that you reject, question or accept) is immortal and will live in one place or another: in the presence of God or absent from the presence of God.

How can I know?

The central theme of the Bible is that we can know for certain when death comes, we will live in the presence of God in heaven.  Is there a way to answer this question of what happens when we die, we can know we have a home in Heaven?

The Apostle John said, “These things I have written to you who BELIEVE in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life” – 1 John 5.13.

Christianity is the only religious worldview, where you do not have to DO anything but BELIEVE in order to KNOW you are going to Heaven when this life is over.

Also, Christianity is not some ethical system where we try to be good by following the ethical teachings of the Bible, rather some other religious book like the Vedas, Gita, Upanishads (Hinduism), the Qur’an and Hadiths (Islam) or the Tipitaka (Buddhism).

Christianity calls you and I to a life that the Self itself cannot produce, and only comes through a personal intervention and relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of His Holy Spirit.  Would you agree with me that this is good news?

How do we know?

It is as easy as A – B – C

Admitting…  You are a sinner and that you can do nothing to save yourself.

We need to admit that we have “broken” what God created morally, spiritually, and even in the creation.  We also must admit that Jesus Christ is the ONLY One who can pay our debt to God in order to satisfy the wrath of God, and save us from eternal separation from God once this life is over.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23.

Believing…  Believe that there is nothing you can do to save yourself because of your spiritually dead condition.

Though God had created you as a free ‘moral’ agent, you are using your freedom with the desire for no boundaries other than the ones you have established for yourself. In essence, man in this condition is man is a “spiritual anarchist.”[1]

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” – Ephesians 2:1, 2

Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins as the full payment for your sins. . .

“For when we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.  For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:6-8

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23.

Confessing…  Confess Him by faith, trusting Him as your only Savior.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” – Romans 10:9

Jesus came on this earth to seek and to save those who were lost. Repent of your sinful life, and believe in (trust) Jesus as your only means for salvation and your eternal life.  You may want to take this step by praying and asking Jesus to be your Savior, and heaven will be your eternal home.

At the same time, there is a time for those who come to believing on Christ, that one must repent of your sins.

What is repentance?

Repentance is turning away from your sinful way of life to follow Jesus.

The Bible says, “God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:30-31). Genuine repentance is a change of mind that is so complete that it leads to a change of life.

If you will call upon Jesus (Romans 10:13), trusting in Him to save your soul, God will forgive you, declare you righteous in His sight (Romans 5:19), and give you the “free gift” (Romans 6:23) of everlasting life in His kingdom. So what will it be? Do you want to know God? Do you want to experience the kind of life He designed for you to live? Do you want to have your sins forgiven? Do you want to spend eternity with God when you die?

You can have your sins forgiven right now and begin experiencing a relationship with God today.

If this makes sense to you, let me invite you to pray a prayer like this:

“Dear God, Thank you for working in my life. I know that I have sinned and violated your moral law. I cannot deal with the consequences of my sin on my own merit without your help. I now know, believe, and trust that you have sent your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die on the cross and pay for my sins. I repent of my sins and believe in my heart that you have raised Him from the dead,  I believe you will save me. I am placing my faith in Jesus Christ as my only Lord and Master.  In Jesus Name, Amen!”

This prayer is not a “magic bullet” for your salvation, but just a sample of what many might believe is going on in their heart and mind.  I do not believe in coercion or forcing a profession of faith.

That means that if you sense your need for salvation, God is working in your heart and mind.  One need not pray this exact prayer or even a prayer to be saved.  Why?

It is not the words of a prayer that saves you but the OUTWARD expression as a response to God’s grace, mercy and forgiveness being applied to your heart; your prayer expressing your belief to God is a response for what He has done for you.

Do you believe that Jesus died and is risen for your salvation and justification?  If so, reach out and receive His forgiveness for that gift of eternal life.  Then begin living your life for Him; get connected to a good Bible believing teaching church that will equip you to serve the King of kings and Lord of lords effectively.

To God (alone) be the glory!

Remember that the Bible promises
,

“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT DISAPPOINTED.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for ‘WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.’ – (Romans 10:9-13, NASB)

P. S.  If you are still skeptical, I would like you to meet my friend Clive and the good folks over at The Poached Egg. Like myself, they too believe that  Jesus is Lord. Clive has a survey he would like to share with you, about who you believe Jesus to be. It will only take a couple of minutes and I am sure you will find the survey quite interesting.

Notes:

[1] Anarchy is the pursuit for total freedom and self autonomy from any moral law or moral Lawgiver. Man, without Christ’s salvation, in his spiritual condition is a spiritual anarchist, because of sin being a misuse of freedom that God has given us, thus making us transgressors and outward rebels toward His moral law.
